Went to my local coin show yesterday. Maybe 50 tables. Again, I managed to find my usual dearth of Lincolns to fill my holes. Absolutely none there even too expensive or too cheap. Anyway, I finally found a dealer trying to sell a book of Lincolns. 1909 - 1934 were pretty well worn and missing several. 1935 - 1958 were all unc and really pretty descent coins. Maybe 2/3 were standard red Lincolns, but a lot of the rest were deep purple. They actuall have the marks I would expect on a 66/65 coin, However, I am calling them 65/64 becauswe they are dark and have lost some of their luster. I have posted some examples. What do you think of them. Are they AT or NT? Pretty or ugly? I even managed a 36-S with some wood graining. BTW, the white specks are on the holders.
Wow Dick, you were absolutely right, they are quite stunning and nice finds for any collection! Congrats
Hey! I got 18 of them. The is about all I could find. BTW, 3 of them I got from another dealer. They look remarkably similar.
Wishing well? Could they have spent some time in a strangely maintained Wishing well? Great condition but........
I have seen a book with similar lincolns once from an old lady. However I need to find this circulated 1920 S I have. It's fully frosty neon blue. Defintely at.
Based on those scans, I don't find the coins attractive or market acceptable. But if they are just going to be fun album coins then I guess it really doesn't matter.
I believe they are naturally toned, but what kind of storage were they in. I'm not much on toned coins, but somehow these seem to be a little more tolerable. Nice pic-up...
NT for sure, I've got a 1909 that is blue purple myself and have seen it mainly come out of older folders and albums, not sure what kind of storage environment it took to do it, but they always look nice.
NT - NICE COINS! I would have picked those up too. I've seen many Lincolns toned like this, it's completely natural.
If y'all want to see a real purple Lincoln, I would suggest you go visit (and vote!!!) these threads. Bob hosted a photo contest, and it was a beast!
