Bronze issue of Ptolemy II to commemorate Arisnoe II minted in Alexandria alongside the larger denominations of a similar design. but the real reason is I wanted to share with you my latest aquisition from the same time. I so love this piece. (Seller's notes.) ANCIENT EGYPTIAN FAIENCE AMULET. DUAMUTEF (the Jackal). One of the Four Sons Of Horus. Protector of the contents of the canopic jars and Guardian of the East. Circa 250 B.C. The Ptolemaic Era. Excellent Intact and Unrestored. in an excavated condition, the suspension holes still clogged with dirt. Some encrustation remains throughout but the detail is easily seen without further removal or risk of damaging such a lovely piece. This is a beautiful rare antiquity in very good unrestored condition. Height 8.7 cm or 3 3/8" inches, Weight 16.4 grams. Approximately 2250 Years Old. Faience is made from a ground quartz like material that is fired in a kiln to create wonderful blue and green colours. It creates a similar finish to glass. Ex-European Collection. Certificate Of Authenticity supplied plus a copy of the C.O.A. from previous collection owner . Here it is (on display in my Egyptian section) alongside my collection of 'Ushabtis' and Amulets.

No amulets but a couple Ptolemy IIs: Ptolemy II, BC 285-246 AE42, 63.51g, 12h Obv.: head of Zeus-Ammon right Rev.: ΠΤΟΛΣΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΣΩΣ; two eagles standign left on thunderbolt, Θ between legs of left eagle This one needs a reshoot and I don't have my notes handy but it's Ptolemy II, ~17mm, minted in Alexandria.

Very nice TC! I really want to add a few Tets to my collection, specifically ones of the later Ptolemies. Here is one of my favorite lines from HBO's Rome concerning the Ptolemies and the divine Julius. My only coin of the debauched house of Ptolemy.
