I came across a box of coins from my mother, and there are four 1975 and 1 1957 PTAS and 4 pesetas dated 1975. I am going to Mexico soon, should I or can I spend them there ( I know they are Spanish, lol)and if so, what are they worth, and if not, what should I do with them? Also have a half dollar not in great condition, what shoudl I do with that? also there is a 10 what I assume to be shekel since it's in hebrew, no date, but palm tree on the back. Thanks in advance for any assistance Nancy
Spanish coins need exact years to tell the value. The actual year is printed inside a small star (usually). I really doubt that in Mexico they accept old Spanish coins, I even think you might get some negative reactions if you offer these in a store. The 10 shekels are indeed shekels if they are bi-metallic. If they are not, and just silver color, its 10 agorot (1 shekel = 100 agora). There is a year, its just in Hebrew. For more help, post pictures. Now, about what to do with half dollar... only one thing comes to mind, you should send it to me.
I"m going blind trying to find a number in a star, it looks like they all say 79, is that possible? I'm wondering if the 57 is a mistake and it should be 75, if that is the case, is a crazy mistake like that worth anything more? OK, not bringing them to Mexico but what should I do with them?
The next time you go to Spain, you can spend them there. As a matter of fact, let me know and I'll send you some gaming tokens for a casino. J/K! Chris
I doubt you'd be able to spend them freely in Spain, although it's not out of the question you might be able to redeem them for Euros in a bank.
Theoretically, 166.36 Spanish pesetas should be convertible into one Euro at a Spanish bank (though maybe not all Spanish banks will do that). Most coin dealers don't even pay exchange rate for recent common foreign coins.
half dollars 1965-1970 were made of 40% silver. anything before 1965 is 90% silver. however if you do have a 1965 half that is 90% silver then you have a pretty valuable coin! (you can check the amount of silver in it by weighing it, but i dont know the weights. you could probably find them somewhere else on this sight)
