Hello coin friends, for me i see a forepart of a prow, its clearly not a part of his drapery. what do you think? it is known that Zeus can have "Items" before him http://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/3/6268/ Reference. Emmett 903.5; Dattari 1504; RPC 3, 5273 Obv. ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ ΤΡΑΙ - ΑΔΡΙΑ СƐΒ Laureate head of Hadrian, r., drapery on l. shoulder; to r. crescent Rev. L E = year 5 Draped bust of Zeus, right, with taenia prow before. 13.21 gr 25 mm Andrew Burnett (RPC) does think is drapery, but i am still in doubt and pigheaded up to you gang
It is a nice coin, but that does not look like a prow to me. Most prows have rams which project forward from the bottom as far or further than the deck.
Well, I have a couple of comments. 1. I am very envious. 2. I am very envious. On a more serious note, I have several Roman Egypt reference books in addition to Emmett. I'll check each of them and report back if there is anything enlightening in them.
Obviously I can't say for sure but if it's drapery it seems to be misaligned compared to others I've seen.....so I'm still leaning towards a 'prow'. It's such a cool coin regardless and I hope TIF can shed some light on it.
Looks like a Walther PPK .380 cal pistol to me. No wonder the Roman Empire fell. Should have used a Colt M1911 .45 cal pistol against the hoards of barbarian.
looks like a pistol to me. whatever it is...is a NICE lookin' coin oki. sallent beat me to it...i was thinking of the P38!
Well, I did go to law school, which implies a certain degree of insanity to begin with...and I spend hundreds of dollars in obsolete ancient coinage with a melt value a fraction of what I pay for them, which just confirms the obvious insanity.
