Hi, The 1976-s proof should be between $4 and $25, depending upon the grade (PF-63 - PF-68). The 1976-d quarter was never released in proof. ~mrtrek
A fake no - but it's definitely not a Proof coin. Now I need to ask you a question. You say they are PF69 - that leads me to believe these coins are slabbed, if so, slabbed by whom ?
it says ns on the covers, does that help ,, also they are deffinately proof coins and they are both s's one is not a d , my fault sorry i just looked again,,they have a mirror reflection on both coins, i paid 3 dollars each for them at a flea market today ,beautiful condition,i am 100% postive they are proofs
I have no idea what ns could mean - but the reason I said it was not a Proof wa sbecause of the D mint mark you mentioned. If it is an S - then yes it is of course a Proof. Value would be entirely dependent on condition. It could range from less than a dollar to over $50.
it says ns-ngc-ms69 thats all that it says on the front covers on the back it says proof, thier isnt a spot ,fingerprint, scratch or anything wrong with this coin ,,, actually its the nicest coin ive seen for some time ,,, i have recently seen a ms70 coin and i dont see any differance by the naked eye .
i dont know it has both markings on the package,,,so if its a proof i guess its pf , but what does the ms 69 stand for then ,and what is ngc,i know nothing about all those letters and numbers ,,, i am really a rookie at all this stuff ,,, although i have many many coins i never until recently became interested in them ,, i just saved and purchased my coins over the last 25 years so ican leave them to my kids when i croak, lol well whatever this coin is ,,i do know for a fact it is a proof coin and i talked the lady down to 3 bucks each for themi figure a proof coin with an s has got to be worth at least that ,the reason i know for sure besides what it says on the cover ,(proof ) is because of the mirror like finish of the coins ,,, i have purchaced proofs from the mint and other places ,and they look exactly the same reflective image ,unlike normal coins,,,
I'm still a bit confused. You are saying it says " ns-ngc-ms69 " on the slab. I don't know what that ns could be - that bothers me. Tell me this - does the slab your coins are in look like this one ? Click Here scroll down a bit to see the full size image in that link.
ok i just went and got the coin again ,,, its not ns its sn{1976 s proof pf69} the othe side has sn-ngc 69 and yes my coin looks very close to that coin on the picture except looking at my coin it seems it looks more crome looking ,,,like a mirror ,, i really could not see that in the pic if the slab is the notation on the top of that holder ,,, mine is not like that mine is in a regualr square holder with writing on the cover, ill get ya all a pic before the day is out
mr22601 - I'm trying to figure out just exactly WHAT you purchased. Now at $3 each - you're not going to be hurt too much either way. But you are asking reasonable questions - I'm trying to provide reasonable answers. First of all - NGC is a grading company, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. If a 1976-S quarter were slabbed by them it would look like this - If it were a business strike coin and graded by NGC it would look like this - Now then - does the slab your coins are in look like either of these ? If it does not - then it wasn't slabbed by NGC.

OK - you purchased coins in cardboard 2x2 holders. The writing on the holders was put there by the seller. It represents his/her personal notes as to what the coin is, what they paid for it and what they will sell it for. If the coins have the S mint mark - then they are Proofs. If they do not - they are not Proofs. As for what you paid, $3 each - you might have been able to get them for less but not much.
yes they have an s,also the price of the coin was 23 dollars, but i said i wouldnt pay that cause it didnt have the card from the grading company so i wasnt paying that i said ill take both for 6 dollare and she said like she was doing me a favor your lucky day and im closing down so go ahead and take em for 6 ,,, note {its a very large flea market with about 150 to 200 venders , the woman had no clue what anything was worth or wasnt worth ,,, she just said take em cause shes done selling for this week , i seen the same coin is no where near as good a shpe and they wanted 13 dollars for it ,,, well just tell me is it worth the 3 bucks or could i have got it cheaper,, lol,, sorry for being so confusing,i thought i stole it since they wanted 23 each for them , i noticed that alot of coins thier were very expensive ,, although i did manage to get a 1923-s walking liberty for 13 dollars ,, in pretty good shape but deffinately circulated
Just because a seller is asking a certain price for a coin doesn't mean it is worth that much. It only means he hopes he can find somebody who doesn't know any better willing to pay that much. There is nearly an entire page of completed auctions on ebay where the same coins you bought sold for $3 - and that $3 did include the shipping costs. I have seen countless examples sold at coins shows and in dealers shops for $2 or less. As for the '23-S Walking Liberty half - for $13 it should grade VG. If it grades higher than that - you got a deal.
Ah, cardboard! If your coin is really a pf-69 coin then it is most likely worth $20 according to CoinWorld's COINvalues. Hope that helps, ~mrtrek
