At coins shows and all over the internet you see proof single coins for sale. I have been collecting seriously for two years now, and have not seen proof singles for sale on the USMINT.org. How does one obtain them directly from the mint. Or do folks buy tons of proof sets and break them up? thanks in advance Drew

Many, many dealers buy an abundant amount of them and break them up. The prices they charge total much more than the complete sets. Sort of like going to a junk yard for car parts. They buy a car for maybe $30 dollars and sell all the parts for what may come out to be thousands. If you check out any price guide you'll notice that the prices of each proof coin totals up to be much higher than a set. I do the same thing each year. I buy many and break them up for my collection albums.

And then there are the TV Coin shows which have proof coins for sale. If they are selling 250 proof PF69quarters they must have submitted over 300 sets to the grading service. So 300 sets bite the bullet and there are 250 proof quarters (and the rest of the coins).
