I found this in a bag of wheat pennies that belonged to a family member. It is really shiny, but since I’m new to this I not sure if it is proof or not. Sorry if I put this thread in the wrong thread.
I don't think so! Proof coins are struck twice to ensure crisp devices and square rims. They also have fields that have a mirrored finish. Your coin displays neither of these traits. Chris
This has been in a bag for over 40 years, does it still stay polished? I’m not trying to argue, I am just trying to learn. ~Kirsten
Surfaces get altered. Once polished, it is always polished. The original surfaces are stripped for good. Being in a bag for 40 years could have been why it never turned back to brown. I've pulled polished wheats out of old jars and bags before. It just has that polished look to me.
Thank you for your explanation, which makes tons of sense. It almost 80 years and hardly any toning. ~Kirsten
