Is everyone on our list that collects Kennedy Halves going to purchase 1 or 2 of the 2005 Kennedy Proof Halves included in the new Beginners Coin Set? The mint is supposed to start shipment of these sets on 10/5. I wonder if this is another way to gouge us collectors? I guess this will be the exact same proof that comes in the 2005 US Proof Sets, right? Thanks, Jim

I bought 1. I figure it would be a good start possibly for my daughter when she gets old enough and if she wants to collect coins as well. And if she doesnt.... i dont think it would matter if the half dollar coins is the same in this set as the proof sets. Its an official mint set, so i think that 20 years or even more from now they will increase in value just on rarity... would they still not gain in value just becasue fo the rarity? In the past the mint has done Young Collectors sets. I am not exactly sure of the value now, but i think i remember them being higher then the original cost.

Do other colectors who collect mint sets also look to aquire those 'begginer' sets as well??

The coins are the same - it's just different packaging - part of the marketing campaign.

I didn't even know about the set till yesterday when this thread was posted...nope...I'm not going to be buying any of them...its hype...its just the same coins from other sets...and as GDJMSP said...it a marketing campaign...

Give me a nice PF Franklin anyday---
