Hello guys! As I promised, this is the thread where we log in what we spend in dollar coins and halves!
And to kick it off...... $4.50 for 2 silver dimes, and 1915 and 1926 d buffalo nickels at my LCS. $4,995.50 to go!
If I had a $5000 budget, I'd stick with Classic commems (Half dollar).......that kind of jing should net me a worthy Hawaiian and a sweet Gettysburg.
This is to put halves and dollars into circulation. Anyway, anybody can post their spendings here. Oh yes, $5 in dollar coins to help pay for half dollars! $4,990.50 to go!
If the government feels dollar coins and halves circulate then they, in their infinite wisdom, will assume the public wants them. In response, more will be made and released and dollar bills will disappear. No thanks!
I must admit, it has been about 1 year since I spent a dollar coin and about 3 years since I spent a half dollar.
only time i circulate dollar coins or halves is after searching a $500 box and dumping them into machine at bank...
I am a car wash owner and dispense dollar coins at my car washes. I put about 6K a month in circulation. The dollar coin has a chance of circulating, but the dollar bill needs to go. The half has no chance. I don't think I have seen a coin mech or coin slot anywhere that will accept a half.
when i was a teenager i would go to mcdonalds with lkes, sba's and halfs and watch the cashier's confusion.
Last time I spent Kennedys at an Orange Julius store, the manager had to be brought out to verify if it was real money. Sigh I like the idea though! Spend 'em up!
I just picked up a box of halves today at my bank. I will slowly spend them and it will take about 4 months. Also, the self check out machines at Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot accept halves. Check it out!
