Progression of a die subsidence error - Shield Cent

    Got these all in a roll of 2015 cents. Noticed that a lot had a small bump or raised area above the shield and that some were varying in size. Here are a few as they get bigger. Notice the same die chips at the top near the rim.     Interesting anomalies but unfortunately very common.

    Yes, this part of the die is sinking in, and the edge of the subsidence zone is demarcated by a crack.

    It is interesting to see a group that shows the progression. Much better than seeing one in isolation.
