Profile doubling. Bust Half

    This is a bit common on the 1823 but I love stuff like this.

    That's an O-107 LDS. But I've never seen one so offset before! Wow!

    That's wild. I love the rotated die clash, if that the right words to describe it. Fun coin.

    Don't know if it is rotated, but it is definitely a mis-aligned die clash with LIBERTY boldly visible in the field below the right wing (viewers right) and also in the center of the shield.

    This is probably the first Bust Half I ever bought, about 1991.
    It has PVC issues but it's still special to me.

    What causes this? Is it just extreme machine doubling?

    Yes. When it is significant like the ones posted here, it attracts some extra interest in the coin. Bust coinage is known for extreme doubled profiles like these.

    Here is mine! This is an 1823, Ugly 3, O-110a. PCGS EF-40, from the Mike King collection.
