TPGS's do not guarantee the grade of SE anymore due to spots that may develop on a "perfect" MS-70 (as originally graded) in a slab over time. I think this policy is a few years old. Edit: See video. ALSO FAIR WARNING: Some TPGS's have a product that is sealed in a coin tube and graded. DO NOT OPEN THESE TUBES! I learned a lesson the hard way.
What about the horrible 2016 ase's already spotted and dinged with tiny debris strikethroughs that are getting 70!? Who cares about milk spots when today's standard is so lax. But yeah, playing the pre 2000 ase 70 game is one of buy & flip quick!
If you want a gold star for accumulating registry points, buy 70s, otherwise sell them. I collect my ASEs in a Dansco album. Quite satisfying.
Since they no longer guarantee against spots, PERHAPS some slide by - not saying that is true or a good thing. There should not be any visible nicks though. SE are graded by eye. I've seen "junk" in all the TPGS slabs. The major TPGS standards allow for strike thru's. BOO! That's technical grading (as made). We each have eyes and can make our own INFORMED choices about a coin's perfection. It's the "sheep" that get fleeced. @SuperDave See, another case where CT opinions mean nothing, do nothing, and will not affect TPGS standards in any way.
As an aside, James looks a lot older than when I first met him in 2006. Say wait, that was 10 years ago!!
I collect ASE's (bullion strike) in a Dansco. I also put Maple Leafs in a Dansco and Kooks in a Littleton album.
I remember James Sago during the Kennedy Gold fiasco of 2014. He hired a boatload of people to line up for those things.
I was at his table that year doing photos, and he was set up right across from the Mint cashier with Alan Hager. What a freakin' zoo. We were all glad when that was shut down.
She was a representative of Eckard Enterprises, an energy asset management company looking for investors. I was set up with James at that show. You can see my computer and a camera lens sitting on the back table on the left.
Sort of but not really, same idea but QA does modern coins. There are only a couple things that would be eligible for both services since CAC does very few moderns. Some Lincolns/Ikes/Jefferson's could go to both off the top of my head but for the most part they operate in different areas.
Cac does ikes? And so lincolns can go cac, qa or snow? Geeze, makes me wanna try for all 3 on one slab and what's the best strategy as to which order to send them to? Sounds like a fun thing to try to accomplish though if one is bored and so inclined
