Searching thru many, many rolls of cents I have managed to find some really nice wheats to add to my folder. I find it strange that I've yet to find a steelie in a roll despite high mintages. How often do you fellow CRHers come across steelies when roll hunting?

In spite of high mintage, people still like to hang on to them whether they are a coin collector or not.

Since they're magnetic, I just assumed that most coin rolling machines kicked them out. I don't know that I've ever found one in a bank-wrapped roll...?

I found 1 in a Loomis roll that I got from 7-Eleven. My LCS has buckets full of them for $0.25.

They were/are easily pulled from circulation by commercial coin sorting machines. These machines have magnets that pull out stuff the might clog or damage the machine, like paperclips, pins, or nails. Steel cents would also be pulled out. Once they are pulled out with the debris, they are likely not put back in for circulation.

And they look different. A non-collector may not notice a wheatie, but will for sure notice a steelie. Or try to spend it as a dime.
