Normally I wouldn’t make a post about finding a single junk silver coin in circulation..

But today was special! I actually got TWO pre-1964 90% silver coins from the Circle K as change for my drink. ^_^

Just getting 1 silver coin in change is pretty uncommon these days so to get 2 of them I was shocked. I’m glad I always check the dates!

    1962 D Washington Quarter & 1964 Roosevelt Dime

There is just something special to me about a pre-1964 Washington quarter. I’m convinced they look different from modern ones even though modern ones try to look silver.

I bet anything that the Circle K got these coins from a kid who brought them in not knowing that they are daddy’s silver coins.

I know that they don’t have any numismatic value but they are still silver which is cool enough for me to be happy with my find. :)

Essentially Circle K paid me to go get a drink lol.

    Great find.

You should have asked for change for a $

I asked the cashier since I know her well as I get my drink there every day.

She looked at the dimes & quarters and didn’t have any more pre-64 but she said if she got more from customers she would save them for me.

I thanked her and told her we can split it 50/50 ^_^.

If I recall a 90% quarter is about $4 in silver so that would be $2 for each of us for each quarter.

To some collectors it does have value. I love to metal detect my constitutional silver coins. They have both silver and historical value ;)
    Many collectors hoard them.

One of my dealers told me that coins like this are a great way to stack fractional without paying the insane fractional premium.

Like if you try to buy 5 gram silver bars you’ll pay through the nose in premiums.

But a 90% pre-1964 quarter with about 5 grams of silver? Much cheaper!

I also have a friend who says they like these coins because they are recognizable and trusted by almost anyone anywhere.

I’ve wanted a metal detector for a while now but unfortunately I don’t live in a good area for doing that since it’s basically out in the hills.

Any of those Mercury Dimes 1916-D? ;)

I wonder…have you ever heard of anyone finding a gold coin or gold jewelry or any gold with a metal detector?

That would be so cool to find like a gold dollar or gold quarter eagle.

Wow! The best thing I think I got in change was a 1944 wheat penny from McDonald’s.

In the last twenty years, in change, I've gotten one or two silver quarters, a few silver dimes, a damaged but fairly detailed IHC, and a pre-1900 Liberty nickel. I've found a good bit more in CoinStar reject slots. I'm a little handicapped because I don't use cash nearly as much as I used to.

If I'd gotten two silver coins in one batch of change, I would've been holding up that checkout line bigtime.

I haven't gotten a silver coin in the wild in change (not in a roll or at the bank) in YEARS. The last time I did, though, it was a 1908 Barber dime which I no longer have.

It’s been a long while since I have found silver coinage in the wild as well.

That’s why I was absolutely floored to find two of them in one transaction.

I love how when you look at the edge of the coins you can see the high purity silver. Quarters & Walking Liberty Half Dollars are my favorite silver coins to find.

    Nice score @Gam3rBlake

What I find amazing is the odds.
The cashier confirmed there were no other pre '64 Roosevelt or Washington in the til. That said, you received the only two, at that time, silvers in your transaction. One from the dime cup and one from the quarter cup. Those are somewhat tough looking odds.

I know right? The odds seem extremely long but at the same time I know much stranger things have happened.

But I kept my word and gave her $3 :)
