I don't do too much roll searching. If the bank has half dollar rolls, I will normally buy them and check them out. I just moved to a new area and went into a bank that I am not a customer of. I asked if they had any half dollar rolls. Teller had 2 hand wrapped rolls from a customer. She allowed me to peak at the top coin. Both rolls were showing 40% Kennedy's so I bought them. She asked what I was looking for and told her 1964 or older half dollars and 1965-70 Kennedy half dollars. She proceeds to look in her till and says "Oh, I have a few of those". Here was the break down. Roll #1 - 3 90% Kennedy's, 10 40% Kennedy's totaling $82.55 of silver Roll #2 - 1 90 Kennedy, 7 40% Kennedy's totaling $44.99 of silver Till - 5 40% Kennedy's totaling $23.81 For a grand total of $151.35. I don't think I'll ever do that well again!
hard to belive my friend, hard to believe....but i guess it is possible someone dropped a bunch of silver off at the bank for some reason. I guess.....
The other strange thing, is that there were 2 more rolls and they were marked 1972 and 1974. So the same person took the time to keep the 72's and 74's separated for some reason. I can't really explain any of it. :hail:
Yes, people do drop off solid rolls of silver at the bank sometimes. I got 4 rolls from a bank once and one of them was solid silver. I got 1 roll from my regular bank and it had 5 silver coins, one of which was a 1959 proof Franklin. Some people just don't know what they have. Or someone cashes in their spouse's or father's collection, not knowing it was special. Or sometimes, someone steals it and cashes it in. You never know. But the stuff is out there. You just have to keep hunting for it.
Funny you mentioned that. I did check and nothing. Besides, I think the number of no FGs are pretty limited.
