my bank teller informed me that she would have rolls of the
presidential dollars tomorrow. i was going to pick up two just for fun.
what are everyone's thoughts on these? i was thinking of picking up a roll
for each president. should i even bother as these may be insanely mass-
produced and hoarded? should i just pick up the mint set for my collecting
itch? or perhaps the mint rolls as well? i can't decide how i want to go after
    these.

    ideas? thoughts?

    thanks

EDIT: it seems as if my teller may be off a week, as i found conflicting data on the date. i will find out tomorrow.

I agree with you about the mass production and hoarding with these dollars. I couldn't get into hoarding big quantities of the state quarters and I don't think I'll be starting with this one other than getting the usual sets from the mint and maybe a few of each. Although I think I had that kind of mindset 40 years ago too, and in some cases I wish I hadn't. So although I don't think they will appreciate much, I wish those well who decide to squirrel them away. That's what makes this hobby interesting, you've got hundreds of ways to collect.

They'll most likely be in $25 rolls just as the Sacky and Suzies are. I'd go ahead and get a whole bunch... pick a few of the nicer ones as keepers... and then start spending them! There's no cooler way to bring folks into the hobby than to lay a neat new coin on them that they've never seen or heard of... and not many people seem to realize these are coming!

By the way... I'm envious... I stopped by the bank today and asked, and they do not expect to have them until the 15th.

    Have fun!

tom, i edited my post, but you must have missed it. i suspect that my teller was off by a week as i have read that the mint is having a "celebration" of sorts and releasing them on the 15th as you mentioned. i will find out tomorrow.

I'd say get few rolls to spend...

If they are in the mint rolls vs a 3party service that delivers them to the bank, I'd keep a few rolls... It'd be cheaper than the 10. premium the mint will put on them...

None of the banks around here know anything about them. Pretty sure they come in a $25 roll . At least that is what some dealers are selling them as.

I suppose that as soon as the Presidential $1 coins come out, people will be rushing out to get them,& then put them up on eBay.I can remember when the Euro coins & banknotes first came out.On the 1st of January 2002 & for weeks after that, people were out getting Euros & putting them up on eBay.

I don't know why people don't just order from the mint and save several dollars...

Mint is usally better on shipping too...
