The US mint has you best interests in mind. For a small premium above face value, rolls (formerly available at the bank for face value) or boxes can be shipped directly to you. The rumors that you would be shut out and no longer be able to collect the series were overblown and unfounded. Our beloved Mint has once again come through and saved the day for us. Just one question. If the series is being discontinued for the general public, why the boxes? Do you guys really collect that many of these things. That's a lot of money to shell out just to look for errors or varieties.....
A good selling point when trying to unload these at the local flea market. Just inform prospective buyers that the coins are no longer going to be released directly to the banks (no need to mention only the latest releases) and up the price from two/$3 to three/$5.
Well, they are certainly "cheaper" by the box at $1.10 ea vs by the roll at $1.42 ea. A P and D roll will cost $65.90 + $4.95 shipping or about $1.417 per coin. A P and D box of 250 each will cost $551.90 + $4.95 shipping or about $1.1137 per coin. After market sales of these low mintage coins "could" bring $2.00 per coin and possibly much much more for edge lettering varieties.
I am likely just going to buy the uncirculated dollar set in May to fill in my Dansco. I understand why some might want to buy in bulk to sell later on though, but that is just not worth my time. TC
I'll be curious to see how the sales on these go. I'm wondering if the mint has a set mintage in mind or if they're going to mint to demand. It might be worthwhile to watch and if the mintages are extremly low to pick some up for future considerations.
In Coin World a week or two ago they said the mintage of the Chester A Arthur coins was going to be 5.74 million coins from each mint.
