Good afternoon! I have a quick question. On the presidential dollar coins, is there a standard orientation for the edge inscriptions? For example, I'll have several Jefferson coins with the obverse up. Then as I look at the edge letterings, some of them are upsidedown. I'm just kind of curious. Thanks

It use to be a two step process. It may still be for the dollar coins. The edge inscription was a separate process. After the obverse/reverse mint process the coin was ejected and sent to the edge inscription. The ejection was a random heads or tails feed into the edge inscriber. I use to separate the coins in A and B side. But, I stopped, because it used up two tubes for a one tube roll.

On the business strike no. On the proof coins yes. On the proofs they are in position B, lettering upright when the coin is obverse up.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

And there are those without edge lettering at all.
