I can't seem to find a place to be put on the auto order program for this coin they are planning on releasing starting next year. I'm sure I am jumping the gun on this, but don't wanna miss out on something again. It sounds like it might be an interesting set of commems. And on the note of auto orders, does anyone know of a spot on the us mints website that shows a list of all the available auto order programs available to the general public? I have only been able to find a select few, but I would think they should have a page with links on it that would have a list of all possible auto orders available.

    thanks,

    Tom

edit: Uggg. I just read that they are going to be the same composition of the sac dollar... I was hoping for atleast 90% silver comp. I also just saw the Jamestown collection.. That is a little more to my liking. I guess they will keep coming out with something to spend our money on :)

The $1 President's coins are supposed to circulate - so no, no silver.

And if you are talking about subscriptions ( auto order ) - you can find them - HERE

The state quarters circulate, but they make silver versions of those...

I believe they mint silver versions of all three denominations (Roosevelt dime, Washington quarter, and Kennedy half), that were originally composed of 90% silver.

I'm sure there's a law that mandates it, but I couldn't quote it to you.

Those dollar coins will circulate right into change jars and will be a big flop just like the last two dollar coins(regardless of if there is a dollar bill as well so don't bother mentioning please). Not to mention they will look hideous after just a few fingers touch them. This wonderful government of ours doesn't seem to care or realise any of this, though.

Some do - the Mint Director is pulling his hair out right now trying to figure out how to solve the problem.

stop the use of the $1 bill and put silver back into the coins.

They are doing something about the tarnish issue. They will change the alloy slightly or the chemical composition so they don't tarnish as quickly.

I dont see anything on the US Mints site that says anything about the Presidential Dollars, unless I am missing it somewhere.

Here is something I just noticed about the act as well. I guess it does pay to read EVERYTHING they publish about something. Theyre might be some real potential in some of the highly collectability in this variety. I hope atleast :)

    "Other Components of the Act

In addition to its recognition of the Presidents on $1 coins, the United States is honoring the First Spouses through the issuance of uncirculated and proof one-half ounce 24-karat gold $10 coins emblematic of the spouse of each President during that President’s term of service. The United States Mint will issue these coins under the same yearly release schedule as their corresponding Presidential $1 coins. These 24-karat gold coins generally will have an obverse image of the First Spouse and a reverse image symbolic of that particular First Spouse’s life and work. The United States Mint will also strike bronze medals that bear the likenesses of these coins. The law calls for alternative designs to ensure program continuity through periods in which the President served without a spouse. The Act also calls for the production and release of 24-karat American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coins as well as a redesign of the one-cent coin in 2009 to commemorate the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth."

The half-ounce coins are denominated $25, and the quarter-ounce coins $10. Did the blurb you posted come directly from the Mint website?

I for one am excited about the presidential coin series. It is a great opportunity to learn more about our county's presidents. I actually plan on borrowing a biography of each president from my library to read as each coin is officially released.

I can't wait to start with George Washington in Jan. or Feb.!

After long discussions with my wife, I think we are going to purchase a roll (P & D) of each president from the mint. That will give us 25 sets to leave for our nieces and nephews. Total final cost of 44 presidents in P&D mint will be about $115 dollars a set for 88 coins. I don't think that sounds too bad, and I don't think anyone is going to be able to buy a complete set for $115.00. Others may be luckier, but I don't think i'm going to be able to walk into my local bank and ask "George Washington roll in P & D please."

    First spouse coins

Does anyone know any details about the expected mintages of the $10 gold First Spouse coins? I have read that they are authorized to be released along with the Presidential dollars, but I haven't seen any other details.

Thanks. Like many people on this discussion forum, I have missed deadlines in the past and would appreciate an opportunity to subscribe in advance. So far, no advance subscription is available for any of the Presidential dollars or First Spouse products.

I asked one of the sales people at the mint and she said she had no information even about whether the presidential dollars would be included in next year's proof sets.

Yeah I even signed up for the newsletter from the mint about this act, but have not yet recieved any email from them about it at all. I hope they put out some more information soon.
