Due to wanting to save taxpayer money, The US Mint has stopped making the presidental coins and will be making them for collectors specificity. Found on the New York Times.. "There are 1.4 billion surplus dollar coins in the vaults of Federal Reserve Bank vaults, because the demand for each new coin drops significantly after it is introduced and financial institutions ultimately return about 40% of them, said Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal. S. Wolin." "Minting $1 coins that ultimately end up sitting in Federal Reserve Bank vaults." First coin for 2012 the Chester A. Aurther has only 2.8 million Denver Mint and 2.94 million Philidelphia mint!! Start collecting now people there going away! P.S. Yes they will be making all the way to 2016.. That is old news and there are already several threads on CoinTalk that discuss this. So Presidential coins are not being stopped.
I am putting together an uncirculated set in an album, will continue to add the ones needed to complete the set for however long they make them and that's about as far as I'm going now with them.
I'm just buying two uncirculated mint sets each year, one gets broken apart, the other gets thrown with the other mint sets. I'm not bothering with the proofs, I guess I do get those in the Silver Proof Sets I buy each year.
