So I absolutely LOVE a beautifully toned, original coin. Many do. And many of those coins bring a heavy premium. Since toning is actually a progressive form of corrosion or tarnishing as i understand it, is there any good way to preserve the current, desireable state of a coin long term? Will an airtight holder do it? Or is it just one of them things? Enjoy it now? Thanks yall

    1) slab/airtite holder
    2) dessicant or silica gel packets
    3) good storage environment

I believe you need all of the above.

All of my Morgan dollar toners were graded by NGC, PCGS & ANACS. I had them for 15-20 years before I sold them, but I never had a problem with them deteriorating in the slabs.

Fully agree with both. The more you can do to limit the coins exposure to environment and humidity increases your odds. And the odds aren’t in our favor when it comes to mitigating toning.
