premier CW coin holders - silver eagle storage

i am looking for some storage options for my set of bullion silver eagles. i was looking to take the air-tite-display card-storage box route, but before i commit to anything, i wanted to get the opinions of everyone from here.

    the other options are:

intercept shield 2x2 - then into storage box or an album (eagle pages)
    - like the presentation in either form
    - from my knowledge, excellent preotection. correct?

premier CW coin holders - then into storage box
    - like the presentation (are they really green or black)
    - unsure of the protection? this is my major concern

so before i can make any decision, can anyone tell me more about the coin world coin holders? are they similar to the air-tites in their "air-tite" seal. does anyone feel they are comparable to the intercept shields in their ability to be a great long-term storage option?

from what i understand to this point, would it be fair to rank each product in terms of coin safety in this order:

    interecpt shield
    air-tite
    coin world holders

thank you in advance for your time

    edit:

guess it would help if i provided a link to the coin world holder --- here it is

    Sky,
On my silver eagles and other silver bullion coins I take the Air-tite / air-tite display card / air-tite album approach.
I have also considered the other products but figured why change? I do like the ability to label the CW coin holders.

There's really very little difference between Air-Tites and Coin World holders other than the way they look. Neither one is actually airtight. Intercept Shield holders are not airtight either, but the material they use inside the holder negates the effects of contaminants in the air thus keeping the coin from toning. If this is the desired effect you want - I/S holders are far and away the best.

thank you for the comments. now i have another question regarding storage. what are these silica (sp?) items i keep seeing? are they just used to keep humidity out of a storage location? are they effective? is any one kind better than any other? lastly, regading toning, is it mainly due to humidity or is it due to other chemical reasons?

thanks again for all your help in my quest to learn, learn, learn

definately IS if you want the protection, but the airtites are good if you want to be able to label them.

thank you for the link, it was very informative. i have a comment that may sound vain or trivial, and i really seem to like the look and the product IS offers, however, is it me or is the storage box just plain ugly? i suppose i should not be concerned with the look of the storage box, but i have been labeled by many as "persnickity" (sp?) am i crazy in this regard? are there any other storage options for the IS holders that are more attractive to the eye?

    thanks

thanks gd. i had already checked out the site. i just don't find any of the options they have there very attractrive. all i would like would be a plain black storage box that would fit the holders correctly. i know i should be more concerned with the fact the IS boxes themselves provide even more protection, but it is my collection it should be stored the way i want it. :) i suppose i may just have to use the boxes anyway.

    thanks again

"the air-tite-display card-storage box route" is what I do and it fits in nice in a safe deposit box. I store my gold coins in them and I followed GDJMSP advice a year or so ago and threw in those silica packs.

this may be a silly question, but are the intercept shield holders the same exact size as a standard 2 X 2 holder? if this is the case, could one not use any storage box designed for a standard 2 x 2 holder?

for instance, i am looking at something like these --->>> storage for IS??? most specifically, the two row black model pictured. however, i can not tell exactly which model that is, as it does not seem to be available according to the list. am i wrong?

    thanks

Okay so now I'm getting a bit spooked. I have been using Airtites and am quite satisfied with the product. But then I go to this site that Sky linked to in his last post and they are talking about some Johnny come lately Airtite, some kind of competeing inferior product with a "similar name." What is this mysterious pretender and how can I avoid getting snookered, particularly if the name is misleading? Has anyone run across this?

that was not my intent, however, after reading your post i went back and also read what you were referring to. i have purchased all my air-tites from brent krueger, so i hope i am ok. that said, i am hoping/thinking that this may not really be a major issue as i have never seen this brought up anywhere. of course, that may not really mean much i suppose. let's see what everyone thinks.

Can you be more specific ? I browsed the site and did not see anything that looked suspect - I must have missed it

Sky, let me say that if I were going to use these for "long term storrage" it would be "intercept shields" hands down. I have seen the others being used and have always gone back to the shields. Good Luck!

Sure GD, if you refer back to the link in Sky's post (#12) and then once at the link scroll down to the bottom and click on the link for Airtite assorted boxes you will be taken to a paragraph that mentions the offending Airtite imitations.

my grandfather vacuum seals coins and then they don't tarnish or taint or lose lustre. some even tone nicely.
