For those of you who do not mount your coins in albums, what storage method do you use?

I like 2x2 carboard and I store them in either boxes or pages in a 3 ring binder. I have 6 row boxes that I jumble alittle of everything in. But most people use single row or double row boxes which help keep things a bit more organized. But if your using 2x2 cardboard, make sure to crimp your staples flat with pliers as you put the coins in the holders. Those staples can get dangerous, I scratched an Uncirculated Buffalo Nickel once. And I crimp my staples as I put the coins in the 2x2s because I found out how boring and tedious it is to go back and crimp every staple on every 2x2 thats in 4 6 row boxes of coins. That took me forever.

Well most of my coins are in albums... most that aren't are still in cardboard 2x2's, though ocassionally I'll get airtites for some of them; or in their original mint packaging for a lot of stuff...

My stapler does the same thing, I use the back of it to tap the staples down.

I'm just getting back into the collecting hobby and I'm trying to decide from the outset how I want to store my coins, hence the poll. My collections include mint state and proof Jefferson Nickels, Washington Quarters 1932-1964, Franklin Halves, and state quarters.

The two primary things I'm looking for are consistency and protection. Here's my take on the options in the poll:

2"x2" cardboard: Pros--Cheap, easy to label, compact; Cons--plastic in very close contact with the coin, possibly contributing to toning and spotting, staples can scratch the coin if not careful.

Flips: Pros--Relatively cheap, easy to label; Cons--very stiff, hard to insert coin and label, coin can slide around possibly resulting in hairline scratches.

Coin World Coin Holders: Pros--Easy to insert coin, easy to label (software available to print using laser printer), low risk of damage to coin; Cons--Expensive, bulky.

Kointains, Airtites: Pros--Compact, good looking, easy to insert coin, low risk of coin damage; Cons--Expensive, difficult to label.

Whitman 2"x2" plastic holders: Pros--Relatively inexpensive, easy to insert coin, low risk of coin damage; Cons--Difficult to label.

I'd welcome any advice from more experienced forum members.

I put mine in cardboard holders and then in Long boxes that hold 50 or so coins each.. then I have a 3 ring binder for my world coins. And little books for my paper money. thats pretty much it.. Oh and I put my expensive stuff in a little fire proof safe .. really small though.. but at least a few of them are safe

I do a combination of both - I use Airtites on some coins and store the rest in 2x2 cardboard in either a notebook or box.

And yes I agree, having to go back to flatten staples is not very fun.

Most of my coins are in Whitman Classic Albums. The rest of my individual coins are either in cardboard 2x2s in a binder or slabbed. For some reason I've never gotten into the airtites although I've heard alot of good things about them.

I predominately use both AirTites and the cardboard 2x2s. Once I can come up with a good method for displaying them, most of my coins will go in the AirTites. I don't really like the small albums that AirTite provides, but I have not found a good way to display my coins when encased in the AirTites.

In a way I also use the US Mint packaging as a default holder. I have proof and mint sets that will eventually be broken up for the individual coins once I decide how to store and display them.

The only two Dansco albums I have are for my UNC ASEs and the 7070 Type set.

I've got one dansco and the most of the rest of my US are in folders.

Anything interesting but not especially valuable (RPMs, the odd Barber coin I picked up for melt but don't have a collection for it to go in) I have in 2 x 2 cardboards.

All of my world coins are in 2 x 2 cardboards stored in 8 thick 3 ring binders.

I have about 5 or so coins in airtites but only becaused I bought them that way

The only coins I've bought more sturdy holders for are 4 large cents that I have in coin world holders

I know they have their drawbacks but I definately prefer folders and albums over the other methods for my sets. I like to be able to view the whole set at one time easily and looking fairly pretty rather than looking through 200 airtites.

make it look pretty and not cost the earth and they'd no doubt sell.

Charge the earth or have shoddy construction and it's a no go.

I keep most of my coins in 2X2 cardboard or mylar flips, depending on the value.

My biggest problem at the moment is finding an attractive binder system for my 2X2 storage sheets. Even though the 8.5x11 sheets hold only 20 coins, sometimes they can get quite heavy and I don't like how they can beat against the other sheets. I was thinking about placing carboard inserts between the sheets, but I can't seem to find any that don't cost an arm and a leg...

Anyone have any recommendations for ordering coin holders and other supplies on the Internet? I've tried Jake's Marketplace (jakesmp.com), but they take a long time to ship orders (ordered on 4/7, shipped on 4/16).

couldn't you just use big sheets of coardboard, a pair of scissors and a hole punch?
