    Hi all,

I've read through the forum and searched the 'net, and I'm still wondering which precision heavy duty scale to get. There's just so many of them. I was recommended to get 0.01 grams for weighing coins on here, but I also wanted to use it as a postal scale. So, upwards of 20 lbs. or 9,000+ grams. But, they seem to be very expensive, as I was planning on only spending up to $20 (preferably less).

Is it a better idea to use two separate scales, one dedicated to precision measurements for coins/jewelry up to XXX grams, and another dedicated for higher weight postage with only, say, 0.1 grams/oz resolution? I'm really hoping to get the best of both worlds using just one scale, with reliability/robustness, at a reasonable price.

    Thanks in advance.

Higher capacity is useless for weighing (single) coins, and higher precision is useless for weighing packages. You need two scales. You'll also save a lot of money that way.

I've actually got three: a scale that goes by 0.001 g to 30 g, one that goes by 0.01 g to 300 g, and one that goes by 1 g to something like 5 kg. I use the first one only very rarely, the second one mostly for coins, and the third mostly in the kitchen. :)

Edit: make that four -- there's also a bathroom scale that goes by 0.1 lb to, well, I'm not sure how high, but probably at least 200 lb. When I was shipping test equipment via eBay (weighing 20-30 lb or more), I'd weigh it by stepping on a bath scale without it, then with it.

Edit again: there's also still a baby scale in the corner, that goes up to 20 kg by about 10 g increments (it's actually got an analog slider). Clearly, I need to get rid of some stuff.

Yeah, I just bought an 86 lb postal scale, and I'm looking to get one of those 0.01 gram precision scales. Thanks all!

LOL ! Not so you'd notice Chris. But I do have a Panama now to go with that one for the FL weather, and yeah, it's lighter :D
