    I have a wheat cent that looks to have lamination and is offset. I was wondering since there are two errors on this then would there be a premium on the value and if so how much do you think this would go for? Also what do you think the off center % Is? Give me your thoughts. Thanks.

    As of now I'd say that looks like a fake coin. If you could provide a sharper pic and the reverse also it might help us give you a better opinion.

    Yeah I used my phone so the pic doesnt do it justice. I got it at an official coin auction so I'm guessing its most likely real or they would have taken it off the list. Wouldn't know for absolutely sure unless it was professionaly graded. So lets just say if it were real then what would you think? Ill try and get a better picture.

    Still think it's a fake. Can you see a seam on the edge?

    looks like the coin may have been lost underground and later recovered , the pitting will hurt the value .

    Looks like lamination to me. Pitting wouldnt leave Lincoln intact. There isnt a seam. The coin has a smooth edge. Also the edge is thinner on one side and thicker than normal on the other showing its been struck offset.

    I agree that it is either environmentally damaged, or a fake. The details appear really soft.

    Hmm. How much does a planchet weigh?

    Copper planchet from pre-1982 should weigh about 3.11 grams, give or take a little bit for mint tolerances.

    Please weight it, that might help some.

    It is 1.33 grams. I was trying to find something else to make it not legit but unable to find anything. Oh Rascal did you mean the pitting all over the coin? It doesnt look like that. Just in the pic. I need to get my pc fixed so I can scan it.

    Or maybe it does slightly so I would have to consider the value with the pitting there. Oh well. Still would be nice if it were real.

    I doubt that even with environmental damage, it would be 1.33g. I'm going with fake.

    There are some pcgs dealers around here ill bring it to. I was wondering what kind of environmental damage would cause that on a copper cent considering zinc cents deteriorate fast when buried but I metal detect and when I find wheats they are in good condition.

    It depends on what type ground the coins are found in. I have found some wheat cents that looked ok when dug up but they will come apart and be heavily pitted if cleaned down to where the copper is still solid. if the black looking surface is not cleaned too much they remain smooth.

    1.33 = typo for 3.11?

    Whoops yeah 3.11. Scale isnt axact so it may be .01 or so either way. I got the coin as part of a 3 piece lot at Jan's Auction and Certified Appraisal Service in Tonganoxie KS.
