Ive been getting a box or two of halves from my bank the past month and today when i got the box it had this stamp on it, I didn't notice until after I left, but has anyone had any luck with boxes marked this way? The teller that sold it to me said the other roll Hunter in the area still finds silver in them so how searched could they really be or is it meant as a deterrent? Will post results after my search is done! Haven't had any luck this year except with a few WW2 nickels.
Never seen nor heard of that until now. I would guess that the other searcher had that made for themselves.
Like they turned the box in? My bank doesn't accept rolls only loose change, and they don't roll at the bank either. I'm only halfway through. No silver or NIFC's so far.
Why should anyone assume that the box was stamped by a previous customer? I'm inclined to believe that the company that provides boxes of coins to the bank has this stamped to deter CRH'ers from wasting their time and costing them additional money. I keep hearing CRH'ers saying that they don't dump their change at the bank where they buy their change. Big damn deal! I'm sure the people who buy their change from the bank where you dump yours probably does the same thing and their change ends up at your bank. I don't want to hear anyone whine or complain when ALL banks start charging non-commercial accounts for the PRIVILEGE of ordering rolls. Chris
No ASUMPTION!! I clearly stated "my quess" as I knew a person that bought their own stamp for another reason and it only cost $5.00 to have it made. There are many ways this could have happened. With the number of CRH'ers posting results of nice finds, including silver, why would you, Chris, make the assumption that this was done by the company that provides rolls to the bank? My bank deals with an armored car company and they roll and sell to banks. But my bank also accepts customer hand rolled coins from anyone to save the costs of buying rolls. Some stores here even sell bags of empty rolls. To think a business would stamp a box to save CRH'ers time is insane. The business gets paid for their service of rolling and selling coins regardless of how many times they roll the same coin!
Why so angry? I didn't say I do that, my bank prefers I bring the change back to them even though they ship it off. On the other hand, I'm finding it hard to believe there's anything of real value out there after this beginning years bad luck. Wondering if I am indeed wasting my time roll hunting, even though it fills my books, I find SOME cool stuff, and it gives me something to do on a boring day.
There's zero reason for any bank to even keep halves in stock. Retail business customers don't want them, need them or use them. Vending machines, parking meters don't take them. (Tolls?) It should be a one way transaction where the bank would accept a few from customers. The only people using the halves are the CRH's. Who pay nothing for the service which is costing the banks and credit unions money. They won't need to charge a fee per box, they will just stop carrying them. My credit union hasn't used halves in many years. And it is saving them money. Halves are a dinosaur on the road to extinction. The mint will still make a small amount for collectors, but halves are pointless in today's society.
There's actually a few businesses in my community that buy a few boxes at a time for their tills to put back into circulation. Last time I bought something in half dollars the teller told me shed been getting half dollars all day. I guess it doesn't mean there's a reason, but there's a demand I suppose. Prolly for silver though ha!
We all live in different parts of the nation and banks all run their business differently. CRH is fun and it takes the boredom away at times. If it gives someone pleasure, why shouldn't they pursue it? Some areas produce good results, others don't. And all CRH'ers have run into dry spells.
Coin Roll Hunter gets a box from the bank, searches it and stamps box with "NO SILVER" and returns box full of clad only. Bank or service company empties box to count coins but re-uses box for next shipment. Random CRH requests a box and sees stamp so doesn't take it home to search or just doesn't search it. Guy who stamped box originally now gets box randomly and knows that there is a slightly greater than normal chance that the box actually hasn't been searched. Yay.
The same could be said for the penny. Nothing costs a penny anymore, every store marks their prices as $1.99 as a psychological tactic, the US mint could save I think it was close to $43mil a year give or take if I calculated that right.
There's no need for the penny. A bunch of threads on this. It's pointless to put halves into the local economy, it's difficult to carry these huge things around and spend them. If you take them to the store, you have to practically apologize to the cashier. It's a PITA when you have to count out your drawer at the end of the shift and you have a few halves rolling around, since there's no longer a compartment for them. People just end up with a bunch of halves sitting in a dresser drawer for years. Until they bring them into the bank one day. 50 cents doesn't have much purchasing power by itself. It has outlived it's usefulness. You can defend the hobby, my point is the half is obsolete.
Gee! You know A person who has his own stamp. That is what percentage of the hundreds of thousands who do not have a stamp. How many banks are there in the US? How much do you think it costs them to order rolls to service businesses? Do you think the armored car services make pick-ups and deliveries for free? How much do you think the maintenance for those trucks costs not to mention the payrolls for the drivers. Yeah! All of this is done for free. Get your head out of the sand! Better yet, buy your own bank. Chris
Who's angry? I'm just trying to get some people to face up to the cold hard facts of real life. Maybe your bank does prefer to get the change back, but did you ever ask them what it costs for the delivery and pick-up service? How long do you think your bank will continue to provide this service for free? You're not old enough to remember when all gas stations used to provide air pumps for your tires for free. Chris
The cold hard facts are simple: You don't want to accept what goes on in other parts of the country are different than in your neck of the woods. I can still use an air pump for free but not at a convenient store. I don't care what it costs the bank. I don't own the bank. They conduct the banks business as they see fit and I accept that. That is why I give them my business. And they will change their business model when and how they see fit. And I'm not that much younger than you so stop trying to push your personal agenda and what you believe to be "the facts of life" on me and respect my comments and opinions. You of course are free to do the same.
Ya know, I would have sworn that you were much, much older than me since you blindly respond to comments that were directed toward someone else. Chris
