    hey guys,

i was just wondering if it's a good idea to save all nickels found before 1950. I have noticed that they are very hard to come by in circulation (especially the wartime ones) and have been saving any nickel made before 1950. How come they are seldom seen in circulation?

Actually, I find quite a few Jeffs from the 1940s and 1950s becasue they tend to be overlooked, as they have no distinguising feature from modern Jeffs (i.e. no wheatbacks), and no precious metal content (except war nickels, which have silver, which I never find). I would save Jeffs from the 1950s, especally mintmarked ones. Most are only worth 10 cents or so (unless in high grade like XF or key date like 1950-D), but fun to find. I give them to my kids to fill thier Whitman folders with. They still like the State Quarters better, though.

I advise any collector to save whatever appeals to them. Don't collect or save something just because other people do it. Collect what you like, and your collection will be your pride and joy forever.

theres just something about the nickel series that is overwhelming (in a good way)

maybe its because my first coin was a 1912 liberty nickel, but i really like the buffalo designs and even the new jeffs.
