Found in pocket change a 1988 P nickle looks to have part of the E in the word (We) missing. And some of the word (trust) missing. And on the reverse there is part of the (U) on the word United missing. Tell me what you think? CM170224-06015701.jpg CM170224-06030802.jpg

Do you have a way to measure the weight of your coin down to tenth of grams at least

Do you think it's possible that the wear & tear that is evident on the rest of the coin might be responsible for the damage?

The rim as well as the design is weak to nonexistent in that area on both the obverse and reverse of the coin. Had the coin taken a hit there that would have done this damage it should be slightly out of round but in these pics I dont note that. Other than it being sanded in this area which counting the circulation wear would take a closer look than these pics give , this appears to be a rolled thin planchet error. The weight of the coin would help determine this .
