Steve, that is a nice coin.Have you got any Roman British coins (which includes the barbarous radiates) in your collection? I reckon that these are a very interesting sideline to have in your British Isles collection.

I have seen mostly Londonium (London) mint coins, but the occasional Camulodunum (Colchester) mint coin turns up in dealer's stocks over here.

The 'PL' mintmark was later used on Aussie coins in 1951.Other mintmarks include 'PLN' & 'C'.

Steve, that's a wonderful coin. You've got a keen eye. Speaking of Cologne, have you read "The Eagle in the Snow?" It's a historical fiction about the last Roman Legion on the Rhine River. Tremendous book for those who enjoy this kind of stuff :D

Steve, have you read a book about Boadicea's uprising against the Romans in 61 AD? That was a very interesting & violent period in England's history. The Ancient British coins issued at that time must be quite rare.

We really enjoy the BBC series "What the Romans Did For Us" with Adam Hart-Davis. I can't wait to see if he explores the coin minting process. Everday Roman life in Londonium :D

I've recently finished a fine book by H.H. Scullard 'Roman Britain' which delved into the fact and fiction concerning Boudicca, her daughters, and the Iceni tribe.

Another good fictional read is 'Imperial Governor' by George Shipway.
