Some of you will be very pleased to know that I have a collection of postal orders from Ireland, which aren't easy to find,by the way.

My latest acquisition is a 10 Pounds postal order issued at Glangevlin,Carrick-On-Shannon (or 'Gleanngaibhle' in Erse) on the 31st. of October 2001.This date is significant,as it was the very last day that this particular post office, which is a sub-office,was issuing postal orders.Since the 1st. of November 2001,Irish postal money orders (which have the ugly design of the old Irish money orders) have been issued.

You can read more about the postal orders of Ireland here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_Orders_of_Ireland .

Spock1k,I got out of stamp collecting a few years back.Postal order collecting has become accepted in recent years as a branch of notaphily.

What countries' postal orders are you collecting? I can't post photos,as I haven't yet got either a digital camera or a scanner though.

Spock1k,I got out of stamp collecting, because far too many stamps were being issued,& it was causing me too many headaches.

Numismatics, including notaphily, has always been a real passion of mine.

India is one country, along with Sri Lanka that I haven't yet got represented in postal orders.I do have a few from Bangladesh & Pakistan though.

The Bangladeshi postal orders are hard to identify,as the post office datestamps are all in Bengali.
