Sorry if this has been asked before. I have the Postal U.S. Uncirculated Coin Mint Set Collection with U.S. postmarked stamps from each year from 1963 to 1988 in it's original folder. Lots of the years have sets from more than one mint. I can't find information on the web about how much these originally cost or what they're worth now. There are some very nice coins in this collection that I'm thinking must be worth some money. Would appreciate any ideas on what it's worth or where to look.
I think what you are referring to are first day covers, and I'm pretty sure they have little or no value, and if I were to find out otherwise, I would be pleased as I have tons of them. : ) I'm sure someone here knows more about it than me though.
You don't see the older ones as often as the newer ones - but you can check on eBay's completed auctions - CLICK HERE
If i'm not mistake we're talking about a FDC with a little window for an embedded MS commemorative coin right, either postal cancelled or not. Why would these coins have little or no value? I'd think these are worth at least the same, if not more than your typical MS commemorative single coin since it has also the philatelic value. I love collecting them, it's like hitting 2 birds with one stone.
My own question re: Coin in FDC I got a couple of questions on coins in FDC and I don't feel like starting a new thread. 1. How the heck is there dust specks on a MS coin that is sealed inside the FDC? How do I get rid of it, if I'm at all able to without damaging the FDC or degrade its value? 2. How do I rotate a coin that is sealed inside the FDC. Some of them come rotated or upside down and it doesn't make the FDC very attractive.
Well, I see them sell regularly for 1-2 dollars. I have about 100 with the coins inside dating from 1974-76, but it doesn't seem like they are particularly valuable.
I think we are referring to two slightly different items as per GDJMSP. What I'm thinking of are these: Other than the old label marks on the FDCs, note the rotated coins I mentioned earlier.
Neat collectables. The coins will rotate over time as they rattle about inside the cello (particularly during their original mailing)
Those are what I was speaking of - the coin is sandwiched in-between two layers of clear plastic. I've tried to turn them upright before myself - never had any luck. The only way I know fo to do it would be to cut the plastic or peel the two halves of the package apart. But either of those methods will destroy the packaging.
first day covers i picked up about 200 of those bicentenial covers a few months ago for 25 cents each and couldnt sell them on ebay or at flea markets for 1.00..hope that helps..i think i still have a couple listed on ebay that wont sell...
What's your seller ID? i'll take a look. Unfortunately I've already purchase a couple of these, arriving in the mail any day now. Still missing a couple of years though.
I don't see any item listed at the store at the moment. :\ send me (kvasirian) an ebay msg or a pvt one here when you have some items listed.
