Have you ever attended a major show like FUN? If you get an "Early Bird" pass for the "Dealer's Day" you will see some of the inconsiderate dealers who search through slabs and nonchalantly toss them back on the display cases of other dealers. I'm not talking about a distance of one or two inches. I'm talking about 12-18"! Chris
It's going to happen no matter what. I have a few but so minor that it's not worth posting or losing my sanity over it. I would rather that the slab be scratched than the coin! It's like buying a new car.. unless you keep it covered and kept inside a garage forever then it might not get scratched.
Yes, that's kinda what I thought. The "shield-for-slabs" sounds good but how many of us would really use them. Not very practical or helpful if you're careful with them. Besides, if we buy slabs that have already been scratched.....what's the point? @cpm9ball above makes a good point!
I've had the chance to photograph quite a few coins for a friend and I must say he had some coins that were heavily scratched. I'll include a few examples. I tried polishing them, but these scratches are deep. Amazingly the old white anacs seem to hold up the best.
I bought this proof at the Fun show a few years ago. I stuck it in my pocket but later put a 2x2 in with it. At the end of the day, the staples had really messed it up. Lesson learned.
No, I was too cheap to pay the extra $5 for the scratch proof holder..... next time I submit I will pay the difference. You would think they would just offer that since no one wants scratches on their slabs.
