Lately I've been putting together a theme set of coins that depict knights. I would love to see some that all you might have in your collections! Here are mine:
This Polish 2 Zlote commemorating the battle of Grunwald/Tannenberg is easily my favorite. Shift it left or right and the date near the top of the coin changes from 2010 to 1410.
Whilst not strictly on topic as the following coin does not depict a "knight". I thought it might be interesting to illustrate an ancient type that may act as the prototype for the knight on horseback depictions we see illustrated in this thread. Silver Tetradrachm Obv:– Laureate head of Apollo right with short hair right. Rev:– PATRAOU, armed warrior on horse prancing right, spearing fallen enemy who holds spear and shield, EM monogram in left field Minted in Kindom of Paeonia, Patraos from . 335 - 315 B.C.. Ref:– SNG Oxford 3359 (different dies) 12.646g, 27.5mm, 90 degrees Regards, Martin
Remember the Battle of Ourique! It produced a real nice coin. Portugal 10 Escudos 1928 - Battle of Ourique 1139 30mm 12.44gm
