Obviously, this has become my favorite coin in my collection. I can think of 264,000 reasons why but mostly because it was a gift from my wife.
In a round about way I got into collecting because of I, Claudius...I wanted a Claudius coin after reading the book..the book also set me on a lifelong love of Roman history...I love this coin not just because its a great portrait and reverse but also because of the fact that in antiquity someone thought so highly of it to wear it as jewelry...
I don't have it in hand yet, but here are the Heritage auction pictures: Krause uses Craig numbers for pre-Meiji coins and Yeoman numbers for most of the modern coinage. This 2.5g .800 silver10 sen from Meiji 3 (1870), the first year of Japanese milled coinage, is the more common shallow scale variety of Y#2! I have yet to find an acceptable example of Y#1 (1.25g silver 5 sen, same year and varieties) at an acceptable price.
My favorite coin is in my avatar also, and its also a Morgan. It is an 1899-O with some nice luster. It was the second coin my dad ever gave me, and the beauty and history of it is what got me hooked.
