Hello everybody! I'm interested in seeing some collectors's coins with pedigrees or pedigreed coins (I've heard it both ways and am not sure which is right) I currently have one in my collection. It's a 1834 Capped Bust Dime from the Jules Reiver collection.
I treat pedigrees the same way I treat rainbow toning ... I won't pay extra for either. Neither attribute interests me. I was at the ANA Summer Seminars two years ago. Part of the classes I took was free Red Books. Ken Bressett would sign them if you asked. Many did; I didn't. That's just my style.
I wouldn't hesitate a moment to have an author sign a book that I owned, given the chance. I will add, though, that sometimes they can get a little perturbed with you if you don't buy the stuff they bring along with them to a book talk.
I can respect that. Although myself I will pay extra for a coin with a great provenance as long as it's a worthy coin even great collectors owned crappy coins. No amount ov provenance will make them great. As to rainbow or spectacularly toned coins I will always pay a premium for them. Most of my coins have good color it's how i collect I'm not usually a blast white person but that's just me. I collect what I like and it's the advice I give. To anyone that asks me what to collect
My own pedigree. I'm a retired Army Sergeant Major so when I sent coins to DGS I had "SGM Collection" put on the label.
I bought 3 Eliasberg large cents from a guy on Craigslist for $100 total a few years ago. One is a 1857. Highest grade of the 3 is only a VF 25 though. Probably E's junk coins.
I want just a common date, mid MS seated quarter, SLQ, Barber Quarter (or proof), or maybe an early proof half dollar or something.
