I was gonna start a GTG with this Buffalo rpm -004. But, decided that a place to post your Buffalo's, would be fun! This was @Lunchbox John idea. They don't have to be graded to post. I will start with my most recent pick, Graded PCGS MS65
When I first posted this rpm there were mixed thoughts as to which one it was, although mm style and placement is close to an omm-005. It is actually a WRPM-006. This golden Buff resides in an NGC MS66 unattributed no line fatty. I have taken a few detailed photos of the die markers, first is the mm, notice the die scratches going thru "FIVE CENTS" Next is the wavy e/w die scratches above the date, I am unable to find the scratches between the 3 and 8. And last the n/s die scratches on his nose. Note- the die chipat the back of his lips is there just forgot to photo it. I would say this is a stage A RPM, both obv and rev.
Thanks for taking the time to post this- seeing the MM only and text describing markers on the Wexler listings isn't the same as seeing the real thing. Much appreciated. Nice coin!
I have mixed thoughts as to giving up secrets, I have always thought Picking is for those who do their research, and shouldn't be fully displayed in details as this one has. Yet, I am Thankful of those that have extended their knowledge, I really am! I see this variety a lot and felt that it needed some updated photos. Coneca is due for an update, Maybe they can include this one? @Rick Stachowski
This one is RPM-002 .. http://varietyvista.com/03 Buffalo Nickels/1938DRPM002.htm I also think that wexler #10, is the same as coneca #2 . To bad the variety experts, don't communicate every well, or care to either ..
I think the cross-reference to this one is coneca RPM-006 . http://varietyvista.com/03 Buffalo Nickels/1938DRPM006.htm Again, no communication with the variety experts . Sad .......
I think you are right, on the RPM -002, Although 2/10 are very close to the same positioning, the upright of the second D to the west, have different spreads. 002 is further to the west. 010 second mm sits more to the south, and shows what looks like die deterioration towards the rim, wrpm-010 is different, I have 2 of them, a PCGS 66 in early mid die state and a 65 in mid to late die state.
I agree it would be nice if they updated their files, with different die states, It sure would help the Variety collector.
