I do not have a digtial or a web cam, but I do have a scanner and I have been scanning, but every time I try and upload it says the file is to large is there a program that any one would recommend. I found Word doc are small on some but not all, any and all suggestions will be tried. note to monitors: spell check would be nice
suzs, I learned to reduce the file sizes of my pics from Doug in this forum but only if you're running windows.Click on Start/Programs/Accessories/Paint/File/Open/then find where the pic is on your hard drive/C/Program files to go to your cameras file system (mine is Nikon) or My Pictures or My Documents, wherever they are, then go to the bottom of the box where the menu is,it should say bitmap. You need to change this to "all files".Then go to your picture and click it,when it appears in the window, click it again and it should open onscreen. Now go to image and click "stretch/skew".You will see boxes for horizontal and vertical.Reduce them from 100% to about 50-75% and OK.Go back to file at the top left and choose "save as" and click Save.It will say that the file already exists do you want to replace it? Click OK and your photo will now be small enough to post on the forum. If not, reduce it down more (25-35%) using the same method.Eventually you'll learn what size gets your pics down to or below 100KB (the max size for posting here).Sounds complicated but after you've done it a couple of times,it only takes a minute or two.Good luck.
There are many photo programs out there. Most people say to use Photoshop and I have two versions of that but I'm to impatient to spen the rest of my life figuring it all out. I've got Microsoft Picture It Digital Image Pro, L Vue, Photoworks and Darkroom. Most of these programs are available at most computer software type stores. If you have a Circuit City, Best Buy, other stores that carry software, you may wantto check there for a cheap photo program. I've been using Photoworks and Darkroom for many years and if a computer dummy like me can use them, any one can. Most of these type programs are cheap, say about $15 to $25. You may want to check out photo web sites for such programs. www.bhphotovideo.com is just about the largest photo organization I know of but not sure if they handle programs. Once you get one you'll be able to reduce, change color, crop and lots of other stuff. Good luck.
Your scanning program probably includes several features that would be very helpful to you. One is a preview function, that allows you to specify exactly what portion of the scan table will be included in the final scan. Use that function to crop your picture close to the edges of the coin, which will result in a much smaller file. Another is an ability to specify the format that your scans will be saved in. Choose .jpg, .jpeg, or .gif instead of a .doc or other document-type file. You can also specify the quality of scan - choose one better than a draft, but not the highest possible as that would generally make your file too big. Good luck.
