How many of you are aware that the Chartered Bank of India,Australia & China issued some banknotes called 'Post Bills' in the late 19th. Century? Well, they were issued at Taiping,Perak (spelt 'THAIPING' on the notes),Kuala Lumpur,Selangor (spelt 'KWALA LUMPOR' on the notes),& Singapore,Straits Settlements.

These banknotes are legitimate issues, yet they have never been listed in any of the Pick catalogues.

I would like to see these interesting & historic British Commonwealth banknotes listed.I am sure that most of you will agree with me on this.

Hi Aidan, my friend, ha ha ha....you never give up Post Bills...Maybe it is good to do a research on the various Post Bills from the various countries and write an article on it. That will be a valuable knowledge. The other day, I thought I saw a post bill from Thailand in ebay. Thailand was not part of the Commonwealth. Was it part of Commonwealth ? I don't think so.

Ok, here are the first notes of Singapore. They are post bills from Chartered Bank of India,Australia & China which are used in Singapore. I collected this important article taken from the Coin & Medal News, Feb 1986 magazine when I first started collecting coins and banknotes in 1986. After reading through and even acquired the various denomination post bills except for the $500 one which is a rare piece, I decided to put it up as an article in my website for everyone to read. This is an important information to Singapore as well as those collect British and Commonwealth banknotes. Below is one of the pieces in my collection.

Derrick, thanks for posting that Straits Settlements Post Bill article. These are listed in the 'Standard Catalogue of Malaysia,Singapore,Brunei Coin & Paper Money' catalogue, which is published by International Stamp & Coin Sdn. Bhd. of Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.

You can report these for listing in the Pick catalogues at george.cuhaj@fwpubs.com .

The Perakese & Selangorean Post Bills are also listed in the aforementioned catalogue.I wouldn't be too surprised if Post Bills from other Malayan states were discovered.

As to the Siamese Post Bill,it would not interest me.The same thing applies to banknotes issued by a British bank operating out of Hong Kong at one of its branches in China.
