I personally am deeply grateful for and thankful to and would like to honor all of our service men and women for their dedication to keeping our country safe. I would also personally like to honor my dad Edward Waszkiewicz (born in 1921) who is turning 90 tomorrow and served in the Navy from 1939-1969. My dad is also a Pearl Harbor Survivor. At the time of the attack, my dad was 20 and was working as a fireman standing by with hose and water while the ships were being refueled. His story is recounted in Walter Lord's book "Day of Infamy." pg. 139: "Seaman Ed Waszkiewicz watched from the Ford Island seaplane ramp, nearly half a mile across the bay. At this distance, he knew he was at least safe - until he looked up at the sky. One of the Shaw's five-inch shells was tumbling end over end, arching directly at him. He dived behind a fire truck as the shell hit the concrete ramp several feet away. It didn't explode, merely bounced a hundred yards along the ramp and changed into one of the hangars." So please post a coin dated "90" or a coin from 1921 or a coin with a military theme to help commemorate Memorial Day and my dad!
This ones for "Dad" and all who serve and have served. In my eyes they all deserve this honor today.........
I thought I'd share these photos of my dad and his friends in Pearl Harbor just weeks before the bombing. My dad is in the middle Standing on the left
Alright, first time trying green's photo tips: I have posted the '21 dime several times already, let's go with a 1990 Roosevelt: And this is for my grandfather who served in WWII and Korea. He has been, and always will be a "penny collector." Thanks to all who served! You guys deserve more than we can provide.
