i gave the only canadian large cent i had to a friend whos more into european coins. it was a 1881 H.
I don't have very many Canadian Cents. Here is one I purchased cheap & it is now in a PCGS MS63 RB holder. The coin is a little more red than this photo depicts.
I want that 1885! Very very nice, Your 1918 looks like it has some Mint red on there, hiding in the bottom corner. I'll post some when I'm home, Good thread idea! Maybe we could attribute them for the members here on CT. And how cheap Collect89? That's an expensive coin.
I really like Canadian coins as well. Here's my 1858. And here is my favorite one, I don't care that it might have been cleaned!! It is proof like in person. Wanted to mention, I bought a lot of 85 Large cents on ebay and it included the 1858 and many other key dates, half the lot was AU with some UNC. i paid $65. What a steal.
Gbroke, if you look closely at the obverse and reverse and tell me of any doubling on any letters, and all the die cracks I'll let you know which die pair and how scarce it is. Or I'll try at least.
Well, the only thing thats seems to have doubling is the G in REGINA on the obverse. I don't see anything else or die cracks.
Are there any other years I could look at that have some rare doubling or anything like that? I have every year from 1858-2009 with the exception of around 20.
If that is the only doubling you see then the only Obverse I could see it being would be OE3, But even that has more doubling found on the "E" in "Regina", and two die cracks found between the "C and T" in "Victoria" and the "R and A" in "Gratia". Around 1.33% of 1858's were struck with that obverse die.
Well ok, now I see some slight doubling on the top of the E in REGINA. Doubling on the bottom of T in GRATIA. Doubling on the top right of C in CANADA and doubling on Bottome Left of E in DEI
