I am experimenting with taking pictures of my coins....I have an old camera and have not had much luck with the smaller coins....got one here of one of my circulated 3 cent nickels...I really like this series and hope to someday have a complete set(business strike circulated at least unless I hit the lottery or something.) enjoy and feel free to post some of your coins...also if anyone knows of a good website of good books on the series I would appreciate the info....thanks and happy thanksgiving
I don't have one to post, but I would recommend trimming the picture to just include the coin. Give it some time and I am sure someone will come along and recommend a book.
Whatever program you are using to look at images will probably have a crop function. I noticed you use Photobucket. You can crop them there as well but they look to be a bit small. You probably need to crop them on your machine and upload them to the bucket at a larger size.
You need to start by taking your pictures at a VERY high resolution. To give you an idea what I start with, when I bring my initial image up at 100% I can only see about ¼ of the coin on my screen at any one time. From there I do my cropping and the last thing I do is resize it for the screen. Here's my final presentation image, but I do keep the large original in case I (or someone else) wants to see a closeup.
I think this will be a bit better...still using a dino-cam...soon the fat man in the red suit may bring me a better one......
White balance is a bit off. You need to make sure that when viewing the image right before you take the shot, that the white piece of paper underneath is the right color. Also, make sure macro is on. I'd also recommend using more than one lighting source, maybe two halogen lamps, or even adding a third? That is what I use. I use photoscape as my editing software, it is hassle free, once you get the hang of it I have no 3 Cent Nickel to post BUT, I plan to get one for my type set, in the future.
thank you...I will work on the white balance...I was using two lamps one halogen and one led....but I was having a hard time with too much glare so I think I adjusted the camera ev? oev? and it darkened it up too much....macro was on, but this camera is 5 megapixel with very little digital or optical zoom...at least 5 years old...I have been shopping around for a newer more advanced camera...this one does pretty good with the larger coins...smaller ones not so much...
Here's my 3CN: I think your WB is off and your ISO speed was too high, that's why there's so much noise. Also you shot it at an angle rather then straight down. Two seconds of WB correction, cleaning up some noise and running highpass over it... not the best adjustment by far, but it's been a long day. Jesh
