    Hello,
I'm a newbie here, I came across an interesting quarter its a Oregon 2005 D quarter in near mint condition, the face is a normal coin but the edge and the mountains and trees on the back are gold plated. I researched this coin and found nothing about it, only found fully plated ones, its a beautiful coin, what do you think? see the pics. thanks

Rather nice looking, but probably some sort of marketing. Not really worth much except as a curiosity.

You could possibly look up gilted state quarter. That may give you some more information. Like Kentucky said it isn't worth more than novelty or $.25.

I don't know what may have caused it. All I can say is that when I received my order for the 2000-S Silver Proof Sets from the Mint, all of the ships on the reverse of the Virginia SQ had similar toning on them. I didn't remove them from the Mint case, so I don't know what the edge may have looked like.

It's a marketing scheme. Someone bought them after being convinced that they were collectors items that would go up in value. By the time they learned the truth about the value, they had no recourse, so they just spent them.
There are many just like it found in circulation, and when they are, they get posted here asking the same question you did.
