Anything thing that this American Eagle 2006 has a chance at being MS70 in grade? It depends who you send it to... NGC hands out on the average over 10 times more 70 grades for MS ASE's than PCGS. Just last year, they received 12,372 "First Strike" 2005 submissions and 324 were awarded the 70 grade. That is 2.62% of all 2005 submissions. For the rest...ALL of the rest were awarded MS69. (97.38%). Not one received a grade BELOW 69. So at the very minimum, if you submit this coin to NGC...you will at least get a MS69 grade...if the past year is any indication. But why submit when you can get a NGC MS69 2005 ASE for about $22-25...easily. The same holds true for NGC 2005-W ASE PR70UCAM's. Since many were awarded 70 grades (43.68% of their total submissions of 13,588), you can easily pick one up for around ONLY $110 - $130. Not bad if you consider you are getting the "perfect" coin.
I can solve that delima very easily. First of all don't listen to Midas and send them to a grading service. Just send them to me. I won't grade them, send them for grading or anything else. I'll just keep them. That way you will never have to worry about the grades. :smile :smile BEEEAAAUTIFUL COINS.
Wait a minute...I thought I was handling all of the 70 grade submission. Remember the golden touch.. Midas Grading Services...KING of the 70 grades. Remember, the 4th staple is FREE!!
Does anyone think that maybe the reason NGC has such a higher population of SE MS70's is the fact that they do all of the grading for our favorite retailer "Coin Vault".They submit more Eagles for grading than anyone in the country every year, literally thousands. There are bound to be a small percentage of 70's..just my theory.
You're not taking into account how the bulk submission process works or the fact that you're looking at First Strike label coins. This makes a big difference in the pop reports. I'm not sure how it worked last year, but currently NGC requires a minimum of 500 Silver Eagles submitted in order to get the First Strike label. Submitters list a MINIMUM grade they will accept. NGC currently accepts MS69 as the highest minimum grade they will accept. Therefore, any coin that would grade below MS69 would not be slabbed and would be returned raw to the submitter with no grading fee charged. A submitter would be stupid to request a lower minimum grade than MS69 as coins graded lower are not worth a premium and would cost a grading fee. As a result, the pop reports seem to show that all the coins submitted graded MS69 or higher, when in fact this is not the case.
'First Strike' has absolutely nothing to do with the number of submissions. Huh? I've been under the impression that the fee is charged before the grading service. Can you point this out on NGC's website? I'm looking at a different pop report than you obviously, because this one has 68's and 67's and 66's for that matter.

'First Strike' has absolutely nothing to do with the number of submissions. Correct. I'm just pointing out that in order to get the First Strike designation, you need to submit in quantity. Therefore, the population Midas was referring to is skewed since those will be from bulk submissions where they have requested a high minimum grade, so you will very likely not see any low grade coins listed as being certified in the First Strike category. NGC currently accepts MS69 as the highest minimum grade they will accept. Huh? When you submit a coin, you can request that it not be slabbed if it will NOT meet a certain grade. In this case, you can submit a giant lot of mint state Silver Eagles and tell NGC not to slab those that don't grade MS69 or higher. Those coins that would have graded lower than MS69 are not slabbed and the submitter is not charged for this submission. Therefore, any coin that would grade below MS69 would not be slabbed and would be returned raw to the submitter with no grading fee charged. I've been under the impression that the fee is charged before the grading service. Can you point this out on NGC's website? For regular submissions, this is true. However, for Bulk Submissions this is not true. In order to view this policy, you need to login to the DEALER section of the NGC web site. Bulk submissions are only available to dealers. However, I'm sure you can call NGC and they will give you the same info I have given you. Ask for Scott who does their bulk submissions. As a result, the pop reports seem to show that all the coins submitted graded MS69 or higher, when in fact this is not the case. I'm looking at a different pop report than you obviously, because this one has 68's and 67's and 66's for that matter. Midas was referring to First Strike graded coins. Those are listed right below the non-First Strike coins in the pop report. The First Strike pop indicates only MS69 & MS70 graded coins.
I can't remember if it was last year or two years ago, Greg probably remembers. Back then it was PCGS who was getting all the Coin Vault business. You have to keep in mind that these are businesses - they put things out to bid and the best price gets the job. In other words - Coin Vault has PCGS and NGC give them a bid on who will give the best price to slab their coins. Recently NGC has won the bid. It's just that simple. It's the same way with the ANA endorsement and the PNG endorsement - for years PCGS always won these bids. For the past couple of years or so NGC has won - for the first time ever.
I picked up my PCGS MS69 First Strike 2005 for $22 off Ebay last year. Wonder if it could be sold for $60+ now......
You really don't need the photos that big to tell if its a MS70 or not....most graders only use a 5x to grade coins....and most of the time just the un-aided eye. I would love to see the coin but at that size can't Speedy

Let me rephrase the question. After looking at these scans, does any thing it is worth sending these out to be graded because they are MS70's? Ruben
