Possible Misaligned Die?

  1. I was looking through the collection of loose change in my desk, and noticed this 1997-P washington quarter. The rim appears to be thicker on one side than the other... I took a picture of it next to an 83 for comparison. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

but if it makes ya feel any better, it deviates from the optimal position which is dead center so, technically, it IS an error, but no real value over 25 cents...lol

    Hi,

Just to clarify something a little bit. Dead center is , of course an optimal strike. This coin is well within the tolerances allowed by the Mint on a strike and is therefore considered normal.

While we may say that the strike was slightly misaligned, the coin would not qualify as an error.

    Thanks,
    Bill
