Just for giggles, I was looking at FE cents and found this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1857-Flying...06?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4d2ac80926 Besides the extremely low price and not great photo, I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Can anyone point at some part of the image that gives it away as a fake? The color looks off to me, and the surfaces look weird.
Yeah.... an UNC coin with half of its rim missing. It took only one glance to tell something was off here. Don't buy it.
Ouch, and look at the bids. I am not sure what's worse: those listing these coins or the number of people willing to bid on anything that looks cool?
Don't worry, I'm not buying it. But I don't notice anything off about the rim, except maybe what could be a ding at 4:00 on the obverse. Like I said, all I see is some weird color and surfaces.
The raised part of the rims behind the dots, is only on part of the coin. Yet the whole coin still has all of its edging. That's fishy.
The weakness of the tail feathers is questionable with such seemingly clean surfaces imo. Not my forte however.
It's fake, and so are the other coins he sold. He sold about a half dozen or so '89 CC Morgan's, and other keys dates for thousands. I can't believe this guy gets away with it.
"Guaranteed Genuine". FYI, as I just found out, even if the item is not as described, eBay only allows a limited time frame to return it.
Me and my dad collect watches as well as coins. It's not uncommon for people to bid 5000k plus on fake Panerais which are very expensive watches.
I don't that person should do research and be better informed on what there buying. Especially if it's that expensive of a coin, or anything for that matter.
Yeah it's a fake but the truth is the dummy who bought it will probably not even send it in to have it graded. I bet they don't even take it in to their LB&M coin shop to get an opinion. Unfortunately some people are really stupid!
