I found a 1882 $100 Gold Certificate on Ebay which is graded by PMG at 12 Fine with margian repairs, the serial is 1182008, the seller is simsion, The current bid is 18.82 with 9days and some hours to go the link is here How much should this be worth and for a starting currency collector, who has an almost unc 1976 $2 bill and some foreign money, would it be good to buy this to start an older currency collection, and has any one had experience with this seller Thanks
Well, 100% feedback and in a PMG slab with the issues stated sounds trustworthy. Maybe do a toolhaus of seller to be sure. I have no idea on value, sorry.
Sorry I can not help you with the value but It is a great looking note :high5: and as much as I detest plastic I would happily bid on it.
I dont have my books with me, but a 1907 $10 gold cert i bought a couple years ago cost me a hair over $200. Nothing special about the note i bought, no special serial, nothing special about the sigs. basicaly, it was a common gold cert... but still cost me $200. My note is also not graded, but would possibly grade in the fine range. I would expect the $100 gold cert to sell for much more then face, especailly being the note is an older design from 1882! unless you have lots of money to spend, i would not start with this note for a papermoney collection. There are alot of older notes that can be purchased for less then what this note will sell for. And they would be a very nice way to start an older paper collection. good luck!
this note sold on Heritage for $1000. And that note doesnt say anything about only 40 or so known .... that alone, if true, will drive the price up further.
now its up to 45 and it still has 9 days, it will be out of my range soon but i will watch it, thanks
This note catalogs at $1,200.00 in Fine condition. If $45.00 is close to the top of your price range, you are not likely to get this one.
not likely to get any at that ceiling price. those $100 gold notes are still legal tender and as such worth face value at a minimum... and as we can see by the posted value, they can get much much higher. wren, if you would likea gold cert, i would reccommend a lower denomination note in fair to good condition. You should be able to find one of those for $50-100. and prices go up as the grade and denomination do. Cool notes, with cool history. I only have the 1, but i do like it
i though so, i just did not think about it, i feel stupid, i did not fully realize the 9 days :headbang: i feel like and idiot, i guess i just want something old but not expensive i'll check my local coin store
dont feel stupid anyone with a small budget in this hobby wants more then they can afford lol i know i feel the bite every time i see a note i wouldlove, but know i cant afford it There are lots to be had for older notes for collectors with smaller budgets! When i want a note that i know is out of my prie range, i look for notes in lower grades. take the $5 cheif silver cert i have, or the $10 buffalo ... they both have seen much better days! But i really loved the notes, and had to find a way to obtain one. I finaly found them, but it took alot of time to find notes alot of other collectors wouldnt touch and that means they are beat up, heavily circulated... but most of, available in my budget lol so do not feel silly or othwerise! We all feel that pinch in our stomachs from time to time!!!
