I am still trying to find & fully grasp the DDR/DDO... Found this 74D Half Dollar, and at first thought Mechanical Doubling, but then noticed the 'R' on 'DOLLAR' especially is more prominent doubling... Again, I have only been at this 2 months, so input is always appreciated! View attachment 238972
At first glance, it does look like machine doubling to me as well. Still cool, just a lot more common. Of course, the R in AMERICA could be showing a split serif on the bottom right...it's just hard to tell from the pictures. Would like to see some better pics before making a "firmer" opinion... Sometimes those DDR/DDO varieties take a few photos for the picture to match/show what you're seeing in hand. My first 1977 D DDO was a bear to capture...I could see it, plain as day, in hand...but when I tried to take a photo...nothing. So, yes, improving the ol' photography skills will help you more than you know! Welcome to the world of searching for Kennedy Half varieties! Best of luck to ya!
I will post some more pics later, I am holding a magnifying glass up to my digital camera, & it is very frustrating getting a decent pic. I agree(like I said) that 'AMERICA' is Mech. Doubling, but if this 'R' in DOLLAR is not a DDR, it is by far,the most prominent ((underneath R)) I have seen so far. All of the other Mech. Doubling I have seen the ((underneath letter is always flatter and disappears when I move the coin in the light, this on I see from every angle, & it is very BOLD(not flat as I typically have seen). Thanks
