I was taking a hard look at my worn off date SLQs and I think I'm seeing a faint, faint, faint 3 with a S mint mark. I know the ways to distinguish a Type1 from a Type2 but are there any differing characteristics on a 23 S? My eyes could be playing tricks on me and I'm seeing what I want to see, but by stacking it on top of a 23P and comparing the two it looks to be a 23S. I know people have sent off dateless 1916's to be certified but has anyone ever thought they had a rarer date and sent them off? Would it be worth sending off to be certified? Posting a pic would not help because you have to tilt it in the light to see it,,,,like I said it's faint.
If you have some photoediting software, maybe you can take a good close-up photo of an actual 23-S and produce a transparent overlay to see if it would match up. Chris
Good idea Chris,,but I don't even have a magnifying glass,,let alone some photo editing software to produce an overylay. Spend what little extra cash I have on the good stuff,,,silver coins!!
GIMP is a good open source photo editing software, GIMP is to photoshop as OpenOffice is to Microsoft Office. http://www.gimp.org
