Hi Everyone, Last Friday I received a letter from the Treasury asking me to take a survey in regards to my experiences with the US Mint. One of the things they also asked in the survey was about any interest I would have in a Presidential Dollar "Mega Set" (my words). After the run of Presidential dollars was over next year the Mint could potentially offer a set that included all the Presidential dollars released since 2007. The designs would be the same and, if I remember correctly, would be uncirculated. They would be housed in a special presentation case and the price range was between $175-$225. I responded that I had no interest in this. I hope this doesn't happen. Instead of surveying us about items that are meant to make more money for the Mint they should come up with better designs!!
Hey, they's got a lot of leftover stock just sitting in warehouses (vaults?) collecting dust. Gotta move it somehow. Yodie Ho idea.........
When I first saw this I was thinking "Huh? These were minted 8 years ago, where will they get the coins?" And then I was like "oh yeah they have hundreds of millions of these sitting around on account of them being so popular in circulation"
I MIGHT buy it only because I don't have a complete set, and I don't want to go back and buy all the sets individually. But it also depends on the price. I could also buy a pre-made album set w/ proofs as well. Just depends on the price. Either way it's a series I've not set out to collect.
Good god, I'm not a big fan of the golden dollars. Those things tone horribly, probably due to the manganese in them.
Depends on how they define ALL. Just one of each President (about 40 coins for $200), P and D (80 coins for $200), PDS (120 coins, 40 of them proof, for $200), or PDS and the five or so RP coins for $200. The first two options, which aren't worth the money, they could easily do. But what about the other two. I'm sure they don't have those older proofs available in quantity, and by law they can't restrike them unless they do so in 2016 with a 2016 date.
NO! The mint has already taken a huge portion of business from coin dealers - now they want to start selling old sets. Where does it end? Now, I would go for updates to the set down the road, as other presidents pass.
Australia and Great Britain reissued coins in sets with new dates, so it is only a matter of time before the practice comes to the US Mint, as well.
