This date on this 1989 LMC looks doubled, especially the 8! Gimme the news doc?! Is it, or is it not a DD the doubled die dream! p.s. Sorry for bad pictures. white balance is not working on camera, getting digital microscope soon! Obverse:
the R in AMERICA has some machine doubling but its pretty normal besides that. Sorry for no reverse photo. ill get a photo up.
Although it looks interesting on the 8 imo a better picture is needed. It could just be a plating issue with MD though.
The doubling on your coin has something to do with Design transfer. It happens in the later die states.
@Paul Broccardi - http://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling/ Yes to Worn Die.. Your diagnosis.. DDD - Die Deterioration Doubling Very minor error and common on Zinc Plated Cents. Doctor Paddyman
Dream on. Seriously. There are a lot of nutcakes coming and going here that have that very same dream, as well as so-called "experts" exploiting them and their hysteria for it, all the way to the bank. That hysteria pretty typically takes the form that some nut might give a darn about one of these experts' esoteric classifications such that they're willing to pay money for them, when the fact is, nobody that has a lick of sense does. There are eight classifications of doubled dies. If dreaming of actually finding some darn thing that's worth anything to anybody is your bag, it wouldn't hurt you to study them. Find one that looks like one of those, then bother us with it. We'll let you know.
@eddiespin fantastic reply, the article that @paddyman98 posted (which talked about DDD) mentioned a ridge ring that should develop. There was doubling along all the ridges of the devices in the pictures as well. The only concern I had when posting this was that the 8 in 1989 wasn't doubled along the ridge it was a completely separate 8. That's why I got excited but I do agree that it's just DDD
You'll get the hang of it, @Paul Broccardi, it's not hard. If you want to find something people will actually pay a premium for over and above the grade of the coin, study those 8 classifications of doubled dies, and check your doubling against them. If you're just looking for attention, focus on and find one of those esoteric classifications these so-called "experts" with nothing better to do are classifying, and you'll certainly get it. Just remember, good luck trying to get paid for it. That should become apparent from just looking over the websites of some of these so-called "experts," some of which even have price guides, and inquiring, why aren't they selling any of these, then, if they're indeed so hot? The reason is, they know better than anybody, they're full of it. And that's it, in a nut.
